What is Time Division Multiplexing (TDM)?

Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) is a method for transmitting multiple digital or analog signals over a single channel. For each incoming streaming signal, TDM allocates transmission time slots. The time slots alternate between all the signals, ensuring the transmission over a common channel is successful for all participating signals. TDM can be employed only when the signal’s bit rate is lower than the transmission medium’s bit rate.
