What Is TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password)?

TOTP (Time-based one-time password) is a single-use password generated by a computer algorithm using the current UNIX time as one of the factors. TOTPs are considered safe because they expire after a predetermined period, which means malicious actors can only abuse them during a limited time frame. The TOTP method is frequently part of the 2FA (two-factor authentication) systems.
