What Is Remote Code Execution (RCE)?

Remote Code Execution (RCE) is a vulnerability in cybersecurity that allows a malicious actor to execute malicious code on a remote system or network. An attacker uses a software security flaw to inject and execute their commands on the targeted system.

RCE allows attackers to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information and obtain control of the target system to cause damage or disruption. RCE attacks are particularly hazardous when executed with privilege escalation, allowing the attacker to gain elevated access to the system.
